With a striking combination of modernist appeal and open road prowess, it's virtually impossible to picture this classy Olds in anything other than a happy, sunny landscape. Not long ago the car benefitted from a focused, body-on restoration, during which its solid sheetmetal was layered in vivid Spanish Red 2-stage. Power-operated canvas was unfolded over mirrored chrome, freshened stainless and a full suite of retro 442 trim. And today, this sweet Olds is a razor-sharp muscle car that intimidates like a cruise missile and shines like the family's best silver.

Hoist the car's long hood and you'll find 455 cubic inches of red hot Rocket big block that, under a flash of chrome, complements spry HEI ignition with a reliable Edelbrock carburetor and a lightweight Edelbrock intake. That cast iron mill fronts a proven Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed, which sends power to a stout 10-bolt axle that's equipped with a posi-traction differential and friendly, 3.08 gears. That driveline hangs in a requisite heavy-duty suspension, which, from the factory, includes better shocks, thicker coil springs, reinforced control arms and a mandatory rear sway bar. Power-assisted discs and drums provide braking, while turns come courtesy of factory power steering. The buff big block barks through fresh turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. And chromed Ridler wheels spin 225/40ZR18 Ohtsus in front of 275/35ZR20 Lexanis.

Inside this impressive Olds, you'll find a correct Black interior that's both comfortable and appealing. At the center of the car, stainless-trimmed buckets ride fresh black carpet. A warp-free dash hangs stylish factory telemetry beside modern air conditioning and a modern Pioneer CD player that bumps rich Audiopipe kick speakers. At the base of that dash, an optional console frames a stylish, resin-topped shifter. And the driver spins a thick wood wheel around polished spokes and a tasteful Oldsmobile horn button.
