Importing a Vehicle to the U.S.
If
a vehicle is less than 25 years old and was not originally manufactured
to comply with all applicable FMVSS (U.S. Spec), and/or was not so
certified by its original manufacturer, it cannot be lawfully imported
into the U.S. on a permanent basis unless
NHTSA determines it eligible for importation.

Importation Details
To
import a vehicle into the U.S. it must be a U.S. Spec vehicle.
Current/late model vehicles are market-specific for the region that they
are sold in and manufactured less than 25 years ago . Therefore, to
import a current/late model vehicle, it would have to have the U.S. Spec
designation.
On the flip side, vehicles manufactured for
non-U.S. markets must be older than 25 years old, to be eligible for
importation into the U.S.
Acquiring a vehicle from Germany
We
have two teams in Germany who can help with the European market but
they typically sell to Service/DoD personnel and families currently
stationed in Germany. Logistically-speaking, unless you are in Germany,
it would cost quite a hefty sum for such a process, which include
shipping, Customs, and other paperwork. - So, really, U.S. Spec vehicles
less than 25 years old are generally brought to the U.S. by Service
members who are PCS'ing back to the U.S. from Europe.
Acquiring a vehicle from Japan
We have teams throughout Japan, and able to coordinate just about anything that hits the auction Market.
All you would need to do is to let us know what catches your eyes or what you would like to coordinate getting a hold of.
Our
teams would then work with you, providing you the available vehicle
options, shipping options, pricing, etc, and provided that you are able
to positively secure the vehicle acquisition process, then shipping
process begins.

AI Overview (provided by Google analysis across verified information sources)
For a military PCS to an overseas duty station (OCONUS), you may be entitled to ship one personal vehicle (POV) at government expense, but it's essential to coordinate with your local transportation office and follow specific procedures outlined in your PCS orders.
Here's a breakdown of the process:
1. Initial Steps:
Receive PCS Orders: The official PCS orders are the foundation for your entitlement.
Contact Transportation Office: Reach out to your local transportation office to inquire about POV shipping procedures and entitlements.
Gather
Necessary Documents: You'll likely need a copy of your PCS orders,
proof of vehicle ownership (title or registration), and a completed
Shipper/Storage Acknowledgment form.
2. Government-Sponsored Shipping:
One POV Entitlement:
Generally, if authorized, the military will cover the cost of shipping one POV to your OCONUS duty station.
Restrictions & Requirements:
Size Limit: The vehicle must not exceed 20 measurement tons. Exceptions may be granted for medical reasons.
Condition: The vehicle must be in safe operating condition and ready for transport.
Documentation: Ensure you have the required documents, including recall printout from https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Fuel Level: Fuel tank should be at ¼ tank or less.
Government vs. Commercial:
If
you are authorized to ship a vehicle, You will be working with the
government to ship your vehicle overseas through the Surface Deployment
& Distribution Command (SDDC), which oversees moving regulations.
3. Shipping a Second Vehicle / Commercial Shipping:
If you want to ship a second POV, or want to ship a vehicle, when authorization is NOT included in your Orders, you'll need to make commercial arrangements and cover the transportation costs out-of-pocket.
Consult Your Sponsor: Before making commercial arrangements, consult
your sponsor and transportation office to discuss any restrictions and

extra for the excess transportation costs.
Overseas Restrictions:
Be aware that both US and host nation regulations might apply to vehicle shipping.
Shipping Times:
Shipping times can vary, so plan accordingly, especially for long-distance OCONUS moves.
Insurance:
Review
your insurance coverage to ensure it meets the minimum requirements for
your new duty station and that it covers international shipping if
